Tilt-In-Space Wheelchair

PDG Product Design Group, Vancouver, BC, offers the Fuze T50 tilt-in-space wheelchair. The single-pivot tilt design, placed coincidently with the occupant's center of gravity, contributes to easy tilt, regardless of client weight. The use of a well-balanced manual tilt mechanism benefits both patients and caregivers. The reduced effort needed to adjust patient position improves caregiver safety and facilitates ease of patient management. The Fuze T50 is one of several configurations available in a series of chairs with the ability to convert from one wheelchair configuration to another. Patients often have considerable difficulty getting used to a new wheelchair as their needs change. The Fuze series of wheelchairs are adaptable to changing client needs with the use of a Fuze conversion kit for one-third of the price of purchasing a new wheelchair. PDG's Fuze T50 manual tilt-in-space wheelchair took top honors in the Rehabilitation and Assistive-technology Products category at the 2008 Medical Design Excellence Awards.

Stair Lift

Bruno Independent Living Aids, Oconomowoc, Wis, introduces the Electra-Ride Elite Stairlift (Model SRE-2010), the most "feature-rich" accessibility product in the company's history. The new Electra-Ride Elite is equipped with two 12-volt batteries that are continuously powered through a small battery charger that plugs into any household outlet. The Elite provides uninterrupted performance, even during a temporary failure of electrical service to the home. With a rated weight capacity of 400 pounds, and sensors that detect any obstacles on the stairs, the carriage and seat move up and down the staircase with power and efficiency. The new offset swivel seat makes the entry and exit position safer and easier than ever.

Representing more than a decade of research and engineering, the refinements in the new Elite include a honeycomb rail design for improved stability, and visual coded diagnostics to instantly analyze the unit's operational status. Offering a streamlined, ultracompact design, its vertical straight rail installs to within 6 inches (152 mm) from the wall. And, with seat height, footrest height, and armrest width all adjustable, Bruno's signature new stairlift provides comfort and flexibility.

Nebulizer

Respironics Inc, Murrysville, Pa, introduces a new portable nebulizer, which the company says is half the size of other common portables. The MicroElite Compressor Nebulizer System serves patients who need aerosol delivery treatment of respiratory and nonrespiratory diseases. MicroElite is the company's smallest compressor nebulizer system. The palm-sized compressor provides treatments in as little as 8 minutes, and can be powered by three sources—AC, car adapter, and battery. MicroElite is suitable for both pediatric and adult use. Paired with the Micro Plus™ reusable nebulizer, and designed specifically for this compressor, it can be used either as a handheld device or as a tabletop unit by attaching the tubing included with the system. An optional lithium polymer battery powers the MicroElite for up to 60 minutes between charges. Developed from advancing cell phone technology, this small, gel-filled battery is an evolution from more common lithium ion designs, reducing leakage risks and providing stability in over-voltage and high-temperature conditions.

Software

Fastrack Healthcare Systems Inc, Plainview, NY, offers an educational program designed to help teach clients how to optimize the use of the Fastrack software to reduce operating costs. Sleep Diagnostics

Respironics Inc, Murrysville, Pa, introduces the RUSleeping™ RTS, an in-home apneic event screener. Based on a patient's at-home overnight score, physicians can determine whether the patient is a likely candidate for an immediate polysomnogram. By being presented with objective data regarding their apneic events, patients might more readily accept the need for a complete PSG. When the battery is installed into the base unit, respiratory airflow pressure is sensed via the cannula and the device starts to record apneic events.
